Amazon parrots for sale

Amazon parrots have a well-deserved reputation for being the “life of the party.” These predominantly green, medium to large sized parrots are typically bold, comical and often love being the center of attention.

Home region / natural habitat

Amazon parrots come from Mexico, South America and parts of the Caribbean. The natural habitats of the wild Amazon include savannahs, palm groves, scrub forests and rainforests.

Care & feeding

Most Amazon parrots love to bathe. Bathing opportunities may include taking a shower with its owner, taking a spray bath, or jumping into its water bowl and splashing water everywhere. Bathing is an important part of an Amazon's feather health. Because of their love of food and their habit of begging for food from their owners, Amazon parrots tend to be the tipping point for obesity. An Amazon Parrot needs a spacious cage with spread out toys and swings, as well as an arcade/play tree, climbing rope and/or scalable ladders to encourage exercise and exercise.

An Amazon parrot often has a large appetite, especially for human food. Owners therefore need to ensure that they (and other household members) do not overwhelm him with treats and table food. An Amazon parrot's main diet should consist of a nutritionally balanced convenience food, along with a selection of healthy vegetables, some fruit, and healthy treats that provide nutrients rather than empty calories. Amazon parrots seem to enjoy the texture of the food almost as much as its taste, and they particularly like Lafeber's Nutri-Berries and Avi-Cakes. A properly cared for Amazon parrot that eats a healthy, balanced diet can live up to 60 years.

Personality and behavior

Amazon parrots usually play hard. An Amazon parrot might swing upside down out of its cage, delight in destroying its wooden toys and even wrestle with its beak for its owner's hand. An Amazon parrot's mood is the easiest of the parrot species to recognize because of its excellent ability to express itself through its body language: staring eyes, raised head/neck feathers, fanned tail feathers, and a wide stance, for example, indicate an extremely excitable Amazon parrot.

Speech and tone

Amazon parrots are among the better talkers in the parrot world. They seem to particularly like music and singing. An Amazon might be careless if the song she sings is wrong; it will sing as if it had written the song itself. Amazons can learn to speak many words and sentences and imitate sounds. An Amazon parrot can also be loud, especially when it wants attention. It can scream loudly and some make a repeated honking noise when they want something. Some Amazons make a small high-pitched sound to express their joy while eating their favorite treat.
